Harpers Ferry, WV is a town with significant history in and around the Civil War. It is also the location of a national historical park of the same name. This town, in West Virginia, closely borders the states of Maryland and Virginia. It is located where the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers meet up through the Blue Ridge.
Up to and into the Civil War, the US Armory was located at Harpers Ferry. Also, it was here in 1859 that Abolitionist John Brown and his followers seized the armory; attempting to arm enslaved people and spark rebellion. As a result, he was tried and executed, and the US then headed for war. Union forces scorched-Earth the Harpers Ferry Arsenal in 1861 to help prevent weapons falling to the Confederate forces, which took the town in the Battle of Harpers Ferry 1862.

I revisited Harpers Ferry at the end of October for the first time since 1997. The photos I took were more to capture scenes of the area on a beautiful Autumn day, than to try to illustrate the historical aspects of the town (of which there are many).
