These photos highlight a 7 day trip, in which Terry Tracy, Jack Yocum, and me backpacked in and around the Ritter Range portion of California's Sierra Nevada mountains. We would start on July 27th at Devils Postpile NM, and finish on August 2nd at Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite NP.
During the first 4 days, we covered a portion of the 4th leg of the Sierra High route. This part of our backpacking trip was difficult. The trails we found were intermittent, and often deadended. There was considerable route-finding. The ground was often steep, with quite a few hazardous boulder fields to navigate through. We only saw three other parties during this time; one of which was there to climb Clyde Minaret, rather than to backpack.
Upon reaching Thousand Islands Lake, we switched over to the John Muir Trail (JMT) for the last 3 days of backpacking. This route was much, much easier than the high route, and it seemed crowded with people.
